BS5266: states that all emergency lighting must be tested by the removal of the supply for a minimum of 1 hour every 6 months and for 3 hours every year.
At the heart of every emergency lighting system is the back up power supply. Advancements in battery development have provided far better alternatives to the NiCad option that was universally used. Whenever possible we will replace any NiCad batteries currently in use with the more efficient and environmentally friendly alternatives such as metal halide or lithium.
At Matrix Technologies we know that the longer it takes to carry out remedial works or testing, the more expensive its going to cost. The Managed Emergency Lighting System was developed to provide the tester with all the information needed to complete the task as expediently as possible.
The MELS system incorporates all the information required to know the site that is being tested. Every light fitting is given a unique identification number that will identify the type and manufacture of every fitting, the location, where and how it is isolated and previous maintenance history. In many instances many emergency lights that fail can be retained and will only require a change of battery.
The system will also identify any site specific access requirements and isolation processes to ensure a speedy test. Working with the client we can decide a timescale where any disruption caused by the works/ test is kept to a minimum.
